Advocacy Studies and Research

The concept of advocacy and lobbying is the basis for understanding the network's work in the field; specifically, as it represents a conglomeration of institutions that have been active for many years in the society.  PPAN believes that the general role of art is to address societal and national issues and create open and free dialogue.

In addition to the role of art in impacting societal change, the network also implements media campaigns, roundtable discussions, meetings and dialogues, as well as international conferences, and papers.

In the long term, the network will focus its efforts in advocacy and lobbying vis-à-vis policymakers in order to influence their views regarding core issues; on the sector and national levels.

Through advocacy and lobbying, the network also aims to address national cultural issues, increase official and public interest, and create higher representation of the cultural sector; whereby performing arts becomes a social necessity and not a privilege or luxury and national plans are reflected accordingly.

The Palestinian Performing Arts Network is adamant about freedom of opinion and expression and emphasizes the importance of creating accessibility to performing arts through community and national engagement all throughout Palestine.

PPAN considers the issue of knowledge sharing within the sector as an important pivotal aspect of its work. The network prepares research studies and position papers which focus on issues pertaining to the sector.  Both mapping and critical studies are implemented to analyze the cultural landscape; in order to provide documentation on how to improve, draw attention and develop the sector and the organizations working within it.

In addition, the network research and studies provide ongoing assessment of the network and its member’s impact, awareness on the importance of performing arts, and the level of change created by the network’s activities. The network also works on developing concepts and models of impact measurement for changing cultural ideas and behaviors as a direct result of performing arts.
